Buy current transformers and measurement technology online
At Stromwandler24 you will find current transformers and measurement technology for energy monitoring, load measurement, and billing applications. Our range includes clamp-on current transformers, split-core current transformers, protection current transformers, and MID energy meters.
Current Transformers for Every Application
Whether for new installations or retrofitting: We offer the right current transformer. From calibrated clamp-on transformers for billing purposes to split-core transformers for easy installation without disconnecting the primary conductor.
How current transformers work
A current transformer works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. The primary conductor — carrying the current to be measured — passes through the transformer core. The resulting magnetic field induces a proportionally reduced secondary current in the secondary winding. The ratio between primary and secondary current is determined by the turns ratio, for example 200/5 A. The secondary circuit must never be left open during operation, as dangerously high voltages can occur.
Current transformer types compared
| Type | Mounting | Typical use | Retrofit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clamp-on CT | Busbar / conductor | Metering, billing | Limited |
| Wound CT | Compact enclosures | Precision metering | Limited |
| Split-core CT | Around existing cable | Monitoring, retrofit | Ideal |
| Protection CT | Switchgear | Fault detection, relay protection | No |
